Pioneertown is a great short (or long) stop on the way to Joshua Tree that brings not just rest after a drive but also allows to play and pretend that you are in the old western town.
And it was precisely a goal of the town creators, Dick Curtis, Roy Rogers, and Russell Hayden and other guys, designed it to provide a place for production companies to enjoy while also using their businesses and homes in movies.
Today town lives with his own life with small shops and businesses run on Mane Street. There are theater, bars and all kinds of entertainment.
We visited the town on Thanksgiving Day. All businesses were closed. But still, it was fun to explore and shoot. We parked near the Post Office. The western-style buildings start from there, but the pedestrian-only is further by.
