Some of the islands are the paradises on the Earth; some are the great example of how nature is beautiful. Somewhere you will lay on the sand all day and watch how waves wash the beach. Somewhere you need to hike to the top of the ridge to understand the beauty of the place.
Catalina has everything. With a huge net of trails, it’s hard to stay in town for long. I got permits in a week before the visit. And on Friday after the long working week I took my hiking shoes and start my trip towards Wrigley Botanical Garden.
Why? Few trails start from the town. One of them is Garden to the Sky.
Wrigley Botanical Garden has an excellent collection of local flora that grows on the Channel Islands.
There is also Wrigley Memorial where you could make a glance over the bay and town. Right near the memorial trail starts.
Trail starts climbing and with every step, the view on the bay becomes better
Trail ends on the Divide Rd with a view on the pacific ocean
I made a loop. I walked the part of the Divide Road to the top of Hermit Gulch Trail
Somewhere in the middle of the way between trails I started to notice fog coming from the ocean
Felt like I’m walking on clouds
All my way down I was followed by the fog clouds. If Garden to the Sky was more like fire road suitable as for hikers as for bikers, Hermit Gulch is a narrow trail which is pretty good for way down.
But if you start the loop from Hermit Gulch you could enter Garden for free, when otherwise you need to pay park entrance fee.
