White Christmas at Plumas National Forest

I could recall all the snowy Christmas I had last ten years. Only 3. And the last one was in 2016. My inner child always awaits the miracle of white snowflakes slowly falling onto the ground and trees… And I’m catching them. Snow as a part of the Christmas tradition is vital (though not critically :)) for me.
The selection of the place to stay on Christmas Eve was on Eugene. Somehow he recalled the hotel we stayed in 2015 after the hike on Eureka Peak. The wooden cabin in the snow made my heart warm 🙂 So I booked it.
On Dec 22nd, the forecast announced a snowstorm in Sierras. Oh, how happy I’ve been that day!

We drove on Highway 49 when the storm reached us. The white madness covered our auto and made the trip especially long. We reached the destination after the dark, and all we wanted was a warm fireplace and shower.
The morning met us with everything in snow. Pines in snow, roofs in snows. And extreme (for us 😉 ) freeze. I cannot wait for the sun to come higher to walk around the property to the Feather River.
The trail was relatively short and flat. However, fresh snow and ice on the streams make the walk harder.

The river in that place is extremely scenic. Special note is the railway bridge that looks like the portal through the mountain ranges. We spent a few hours exploring the fire roads and the river banks.

A short day made it possible to go to watch the sunset right after lunch. Roads were covered with ice, so we decided to make the short trip and snowshoe with us.
We stopped near the entrance to the Lake Davis campground. All-access roads were closed for winter. That’s when snowshoes were a deal. The strangest part of that hike was the extreme quiet. We heard some distance sounds from the mountains (creepy!) and saw only the animal prints and a totally frozen lake under the sun’s last rays.
